La Paz - highest capital in the world

Header

While La Paz is not really the capital of Boliva, Sucre is, it is home to so many government agencies that it is considered the administrative capital of Bolivia. And with more than 4000 meters high going for a stroll or just making your bed  will leave you quickly without breath.

While it is not the most awesome city I every visited it is not without charms and it is the only place where one can get a soup plus a plate of rice, beans and chicken for one dollar.

After all the action and hardships in Peru I decided to spoil myself a little and checked into a nice hotel, with a big bed and private shower, and why not after negotiating a price of 10 dollars a night.  The only thing which was kind of missing was proper heating, which is not uncommon here. So I spend my nights covered under 4 layers of blankets to keep warm.

What's with all those cables La Paz?

Mobile Desk I

I was bored one day and flipped through all of my pictures and discovered that I have a few of a certain kind. So I am thinking to post a number of photo series to share some more travel impression with you ... in case you still following my blog that is.

This one I call Mobil Desk and it goes out to all off my friends who have to sit in a office all day, but especially to all of you, who are surrounded by gray cubicle walls, not even a window close by, slaving away at their keyboards. I did spend some time on my laptop as well, blogging, reading networking and watching South Park of course and as it happened enjoying the scenery at the same time.  So if the gray cubicle walls pressing in on you, just stop by at my blog and get a bit of this ...

Ancient site of Tiwanuku

After my constant run-ins with the less the than upright part of the Peruvian population, I have to admit I was happy to leave Peru behind me. But even so I had a lot of good times here, so no regrets.

Next stop will be La Paz, capitol of Bolivia. But right on the road, another UNESCO World Heritage site shows up. Its called Kiwanuku, and was a city of some high culture of sorts. I had read about it before and so I decided to take a look …

… that was quite frankly the most disappointing heap of stones I had ever paid entrance for, and it was not even cheap.  Well … that money is gone but I feel like extracting revenge on somebody. There is an idea    I will make you look at the pictures.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not trying to knock down Bolivia on my first day. I totally understand that as a country you have to work with what you got, even if it is not that much.

Lake Titicaca

Ever since I am 10 years old I knew about this lake in Peru. There seems to be something about its name which tends to burn itself into the brain of little boys, I just can't put my finger on it. Little did I know back then, that would one day stand on its shores without constant snickering.

The name of the town right next to the lake is Puno and it has a little bit of sights.

And while I was hiking up the hill to snap a picture of a giant condor, some locals very skillfully cleaned out my car. It was not the first time this happened here in Peru, but they have been quite thorough this time. They left me one pair of jeans and one pair of shoes, but I guess that was only because I was wearing them. Luckily all my really important stuff, like laptop and electronics, where locked away in my save-box, so greater damage was averted. For some reason they did not touch the Alpaca merchandize I bought for my family.  It makes one wonder ….

But the local banditos are not the only one's who have good timing. Without knowing I hit Puno right at the day of a some sort of colorful parade which took place during the afternoon and most of the night.  It was quite the celebration and there was a lot of action.

I probably would have enjoyed it more, if I would not have been on the constant lookout for somebody running around in my jeans and sneakers.

Jumping through a rainbow

Header

People who know me understand that I like to jump ... out of airplanes, from rocks into water and of course I would not pass on a good Bungee jump. This one here with 125 meters is apparently the highest in South America. And to sweeten the deal there was a perfect circular rainbow in the sky and I would jump right through it.

Also my video editing skill increase with every video i post. So marvel at the multiple camera angles and the sound. Spielberg watch out !!
